About Promova
Promova is a language learning app from the Genesis group in Kyiv, launched in 2019 as the vocabulary app Ten Words. It teaches 13 languages, ASL included, in lessons of 3–5 minutes, with an AI Tutor for voice calls and 80+ AI role-play scenarios. Live tutoring and the Conversation Club are discontinued, according to the Promova FAQ. On the US App Store Premium costs $9.99 a week, $19.99 a month, $59.99 for six months or $83.99 a year, and a lifetime item costs $49.99. App stores rate Promova 4.3 to 4.6, Trustpilot gives 4.5, and most 1-star reviews describe trial charges and refunds.
Promova sells a subscription to a language learning app for iPhone, Android and the web. Lessons take 3–5 minutes and cover vocabulary, grammar, listening, reading, writing and speaking. The AI Tutor runs short voice calls of 5–10 minutes for levels A1 to C1 and gives feedback on pronunciation and grammar. AI Role Play offers 80+ real-life scenarios such as job interviews, travel and doctor visits. A free Dyslexia Mode uses the Dysfont typeface, and a white noise mode helps learners focus.
The company started in 2019 inside Boosters, a startup of the Ukrainian Genesis group. Forbes Ukraine writes that Boosters founder Mykhailo Galian invited Andrew Skrypnyk to build the product, and Skrypnyk became CEO. The first app, Ten Words, taught a few words a day. It grew into Words Booster with courses, tutoring and a community, and in 2023 the product took the name Promova, a Ukrainian word for “speech”. Promova offered live lessons with tutors for several years. The FAQ now says tutoring and the Conversation Club are discontinued, and the old tutoring price page returns an error.
Since 2023 all Ukrainians can get three years of free Premium through the national Future Perfect programme. The Promova for Good programme gives free Premium through NGOs; partners include SolidarityNow, Asylum Access México, Adus Institute and Instituto KondZilla. In January 2026 boxer Oleksandr Usyk became honorary Chief Discipline Officer, and the app added Usyk Mode, a discipline course and an AI Tutor with his voice. The company cut 28 jobs in November 2025 and 63 more in August 2026, DOU reports. Unlimited Promova Limited in Limassol, Cyprus, sells the app; GM APPDEV Limited at the same address is the Google Play developer.
